6.2. The service model of the data platform
To raise its data capabilities to a new level, the Helsinki will create a City-wide common data platform, which will provide the framework for the combination of different datasets and the extensive utilisation of advanced analytics. The City will also look into the possibility of building a shared data lake and review the role of the HETA data warehouse in the common data platform. The City will make its common data platform as functional as possible with the aim of making the utilisation of data significantly easier. The code and data produced on the data platform will be owned by the City and shared between City divisions.
The City’s centralised data and analytics unit will develop the data platform as a common service for City divisions. The unit’s services will help divisions to quickly adopt the data platform environment both for their own use and for the purpose of sharing data in the City’s ecosystem. In addition to the platform itself, the service model of the data platform will include expert services and information sharing, which will help divisions to accumulate know-how. The centralised analytics environment will be able to smoothly read data from each division’s own data platform while also allowing each division’s own environment to access data on the centralised data platform.
