WHAT? Helsinki now offers parents of children who will be starting pre-primary education a spot at an early childhood education facility that they can accept with a simple text message. No more forms to fill out, as the city will take the initiative to contact the families. The service sends the notifications via SMS, and will later expand to a handy mobile application as well.
WHO? Parents of Helsinki children turning six within the year.
WHY? One simple text message will secure the child’s placement in the starting class, meaning parents will not have to fill out any forms. If the parents do not want the placement offered, they are free to contact the city to negotiate a different arrangement.
WHEN? The service expanded to the whole of Helsinki starting in 2021.
WHERE? Coming to the mobile phones of parents of kindergarten-age children.
